Jonamac is a cross between the Jonathan and McIntosh.
These apples are often marketed as "before Mac" because they can be picked before its parent McIntosh.
The Jonamac combines the rich taste of a McIntosh with the spicyness of a Jonathan to represent the best qualities in one apple.
What’s it like?
• Sweet, but mildly tart with a hint of spice
• Skin is thin and hardly noticeable when chewing
• Excellent for eating
• Good for sauce, baking
• The slices tend to be juicy, so you will need a thickener for pies.
• September through April
